Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Facility/equipment: Equipment

Equipments Details

OCT is an optical analog of IVUS that can be used to examine the coronary arteries and has 10 fold higher resolution than IVUS. Based on the principle of near infra red light, it has a rotating glass fiber- optic system and creates high resolution images. It can differentiate tissue characteristics and identify thin cap fibrous atheroma. During percutaneous intervention it provides detailed information and helps in precision angioplasty. It may impact clinical outcomes in patients with symptomatic coronary artery disease.
