Organisation profile

The department of biotechnology, established in 2002 is under the umbrella of the School of Life Sciences for advanced research, academics and developmental activities in the area of human health. The general aim of the department is to provide the atmosphere and opportunities for students and researchers to become biotechnologists equipped with knowledge, competence and commitment, who will be self-directed individuals and responsible citizens. The department has state-of-the-art laboratories, teaching facilities and qualified teachers. The department has a strong research program in focused areas such as genomics and epigenomics of human variations in human diseases, pharmacogenomics, molecular biology of medicinal plants, molecular genetics of human diseases and development and translation of genetic testing to clinical environment.
