Department of Microbiology at Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru, has state of the art Diagnostic & Research laboratories. Research being an integral part of Microbiology, the department is active in research projects by its staff and students. Some of the priority areas of research include: Detection of bacterial & fungal infections, Detection of drug resistance & biofilms in medically important bacteria & fungi, Molecular detection of virulence & drug resistance genes, Surveillance of hospital acquired infections and Infection control. Department has received grants from Indian government and foreign agencies. Highly competent and dedicated faculty in the department encourage undergraduate and post graduate students to undertake ICMR funded research projects and publish the outcome in indexed journals and presented at various State, National and International conferences. Besides this, the department also assists other departments and colleges in their research activities.
