Nuclear Medicine is a specialty that utilizes radioactive material to assess the function of organs or systems within the body that helps diagnose a number of diseases and also treat diseases such as cancer and arthritis. The Department of Nuclear Medicine is one of the constituent departments in the School of Allied Health Science, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal which was established in the Year 1985.The specialty, with a goal of training the next generation of leaders in molecular nuclear medicine, has created a combined academic/research training program in clinical, technical and research aspects of Nuclear Medicine.

Under graduate, post graduate and Ph.D. students gain outstanding clinical training and participate in cutting-edge research programs that prioritize moving laboratory-based studies to clinical translation of new imaging and theranostic agents and relevant techniques. Our full time research faculties are continually involved in discovering new radio isotopic, diagnostic and therapeutic agents for in-vitro/in-vivo applications as well as repurpose the existing ones in novel and exciting ways. The ongoing research activities of department are focused on development of radiolabeled nanoparticles for treatment and imaging and as receptor based delivery system for therapeutic radionuclides to cancerous cells.
