The routine research activities of the Dept of Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance are

  1. Novel analytical method development for estimation/ assay of drugs and pharmaceuticals and its validation.
  2. Development of stability indicating assay methods
  3. Impurity profiling of drugs and pharmaceuticals
  4. Metabolome analysis and drug safety evaluation studies
  5. Pharmacokinetic evaluation
  6. Bioavailability studies
  7. Crystal engineering and material analysis
  8. Amorphous and co-crystal formulation development and bioavailability studies

The department houses instruments such as HPLC, GC-MS, LC-MS, UV Spectrometer, Spectrofluorimeter, IR spectrometer, ELISA system, Nitrogen evaporator, -80 refrigerator and pH meter.

Funded research projects ongoing with the department are

  1. Metabolite analysis and its implication on therapy, funded by DST-SERB.
  2. Estimation of PPRCs in waste water and effectiveness of removing these from the waste water, funded by BRNS
  3. Newborn screening project in collaboration with the Dept of Biochemistry and the Dept of Neonatology, KMC, Manipal, funded by VGST and Grand Challenges Canada.

The department has signed MoU for research collaborations with

  1. University of Copenhagen in the area of crystal engineering
  2. Glaxo Smith Kline Pharmaceuticals
  3. Novartis in the area of regulatory affairs
