Department of Pharmacognosy is actively involved in the standardization and evaluation of botanicals, development and evaluation of nutraceuticals and screening of herbal drugs for various diseases; primarily cancer, urinary calculi, osteoporosis and diabetes. The department has collaborative projects with herbal industries on development of poyherbal dosage forms for oral cancer and exploration of eutectic solvents for better and safe extraction process. Standardization of herbal raw material and finished products is carried out by HPTLC marker based analysis and finger printing. The department has been involved in the development of herbal soup and cookies as functional foods for the management of diabetes (patent filed). Preliminary screening of herbal candidates based on ethnopharmacological data for Cancer, Urinary calculi, osteoporosis and diabetes is a routine work in the department. Currently bioactivity guided fractionation and isolation of anticancer and antiurolithiatics is in process.
