The department of pharmacology is at the forefront of research at MMMC and is focussed on pre-clinical research, clinical research and as well as research in medical education.

The preclinical research in the department aims to examine preventive and therapeutic potentials of natural products with respect to drug-induced toxicities, psoriasis and alcoholic and non-alcoholic liver diseases and dementia. In addition, the faculty members are working on pain mechanisms. The clinical studies are focused on pharmacogenetic variations in drug responses. The department strives to make pharmacology learning interesting and relevant among undergraduate students by implementing novel teaching-learning strategies and by asserting student outcomes through program evaluation. The department has two Ph.D. guides. At present, there are many undergraduate medical students and 6 Ph.D. students working on various research projects.
