Physiology is a research-based science which "depends on the acquisition of knowledge. The research in this department is directed towards understanding fundamental mechanisms through humans and animal research. A Well-equipped research lab with all research facilities helps the staff members, postgraduates, undergraduates and research scholars to do their research work. All the faculty members actively participate in a wide spectrum of research activities. The core competencies of the Department of Physiology are:

- Neuroscience
- Cardio respiratory
- Free radical biology and toxicology
- Stress Physiology
- Phytomedicine
- Yoga
The departmental research work is also funded by different research grants. The department faculty is well efficient in training in undergraduate and postgraduate research. The research interests and contributions by members of the department of Physiology is depicted by the contributions by each staff member through research publications in reputed journals. The staff members have also received various prizes for research presentations such as Best poster award, Best paper presentation award, TMA Pai Gold medal. Further, the student’s projects guided by the staff has also been bagged by various awards. The research work in the department has also been funded by BRNS and DBT grants. As a part of the research effort, the department has good number of Ph. D guides who trains the Ph. D students in various research fields. Members of the department are also involved in the collaborative research work.
