The foundation of Manipal was originated back in the year 1956 with the beginning of Kasturba Medical College at Manipal located in Udupi District, Karnataka State of India. Manipal became Deemed to be University in the year 1993 under the name Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE). Currently, at Manipal over 28,000 students from 57 different nations live, learn and play in the sprawling University town.

MAHE is ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001: 2004 certified, and has won the prestigious IMC Ramkrishna Bajaj National Quality Award and the International Asia Pacific Quality Award in 2007- 2008. Manipal is globally recognized and ranked in QS and THE World University Ranking. In QS Ranking 2019, Manipal stands 701-750 globally. It stands 239 in Asia, 120 in BRICS, 26 in India by QS-ranking. In global-ranking by subject 'Pharmacy & Pharmacology', MAHE positioned between 151-200. The growth of Manipal was unparalleled for the last few years and it is marching ahead to be top 200 global Universities in the future.
