Professional Information
- He started his professional career as Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and became Professor and Head, Department of Paediatric Surgery in 1988.
- In 1993, he was appointed as the first Registrar of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), now known as Manipal University. He was also the first Dean of Melaka Manipal Medical College, Malaysia, and Deputy Dean (Clinical) at AIMST University, Sungai Petani, Malaysia, from 2004 to 2008.
- In 2009, he was appointed Director, Quality and Compliance at Manipal University.
- Dr Rao is a Fellow of Academy of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, and holds membership/ fellowship of professional bodies like the Association of Surgeons of India, Indian Association of Paediatric Surgeons, Indian Society of Gastroenterology, Indian Medical Association, and Asian Association of Paediatric Surgeons.
- His hobbies and interests include medical photography and creating audio visual aids.
