Personal profile

Research interests

Our lab investigates the interplay between diabetes mellitus, inflammatory signaling pathways, and bacterial infections such as melioidosis. We aim to understand how chronic inflammation in diabetes heightens infection susceptibility and impairs immune responses, focusing on T cells, bioenergetics, glycaemia, and mitochondrial metabolism. This research guides targeted therapies addressing inflammation, glycaemia, and infection control.

Professional Information

Dr. Ranita Ghosh Dastidar has joined the Department of Biochemistry, KMC, Manipal as a research faculty in October, 2019. She graduated with a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology in 2012 from the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), USA. For her Ph.D., she worked in the field of oxygen regulation using yeast model that has profound implications in ageing, cancer, stroke, traumatic injuries and neurodegenerative disorders. She then pursued postdoctoral training in cell biology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), USA where she has worked on ER-Golgi trafficking and on mitochondrial cholesterol synthesis pathways. The current key areas of interest include immunometabolism; diabetes mellitus; mitochondrial studies; hypoxic studies; microbiology; neurological degeneration.
