Dr. Ranjitha S Shetty, an accomplished medical professional, holds an MBBS degree from Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, and an MD in Community Medicine from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. Currently, she serves as an Additional Professor in the Department of Community Medicine at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, since March 2023, having previously held roles as Associate Professor and Assistant Professor in the same department.
Dr. Shetty possesses research proficiency across various areas, including Women’s Health, Preventive Oncology, Indigenous Health, Geriatric Health, and Vaccine studies. In 2021, she successfully finished the "Precision Medicine: Oncology Genomics" training program provided by the University of Kentucky, USA. Actively involved in teaching and mentoring, Dr. Shetty received the "Excellence in Teaching" award in 2018 from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.
Her robust research portfolio includes three grants from the Indian Council of Medical Research, participation in major vaccine trials, over 45 publications in peer-reviewed journals, co-authorship of a chapter, and presentations of her work at numerous national and international conferences.
Dr. Shetty collaborated with the University of Aberdeen, UK, in 2018, through which she was engaged in a project titled "ICANTREAT," aiming to assess the feasibility of building a community of expertise to address breast cancer screening and treatment challenges, with a focus on the local region of Udupi district. She was part of the major multicentric vaccine trials including the ROTASIL vaccine and CERVAVAC (HPV) vaccine trials. She is also engaged in cancer screening projects in collaboration with the Manipal Foundation, Bengaluru, and Indian Cancer Society, Bengaluru, and various projects among tribal populations.
In addition to her research endeavors, Dr. Ranjitha S Shetty guides PhD scholars and postgraduate students in various health domains, receiving grants for her interdisciplinary work.
Taking on diverse roles within her institution, Dr. Ranjitha S Shetty has been serving as the Member Secretary of KMC-KH Institutional Ethics Committee - Student Research since May 2023. Additionally, as the Coordinator of the Centre for Indigenous Population since May 2018, she leads initiatives for the health and well-being of tribal people. She has also assumed the role of Coordinator for the Centre for Community Oncology at KMC, Manipal, since May 2022, emphasizing her commitment to advancing community-based oncology initiatives. She played a key role in initiating the "Well Women Clinic" at KMC, Manipal through the CSR fund, aiming to provide underprivileged women in the district with free access to breast and cervical cancer screening and treatment services.
In summary, Dr. Ranjitha S Shetty has made multifaceted contributions to academia, research, and community health, coupled with her leadership in the field of Community Medicine.
