    Abstract

The synthesis and crystal structure of C8H5BrO 2 were investigated. The compound served as a starting materials for the synthesis of citalopram. It crystallized wilth two almost identical molecules in the asymmetric unit. The compound was diazotized with NaNO 2 and concentrated HCl to yield the diazonium salt. The results show that in each molecule, all non-H atoms are coplanar.
