Abstract

The synthesis and crystal structure of C₈H₅BrO ₂ were investigated. The compound served as a starting materials for the synthesis of citalopram. It crystallized wilth two almost identical molecules in the asymmetric unit. The compound was diazotized with NaNO ₂ and concentrated HCl to yield the diazonium salt. The results show that in each molecule, all non-H atoms are coplanar.
