    Abstract

A truncated radiating patch circularly polarized antenna for Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) application is discussed. Circular polarization in the proposed design is achieved through corner truncation of the radiating patch and the use of coaxial feed mechanism. The proposed design has a dimension of 0.31 λ0 × 0.31 λ0× 0.009 λ0 at a frequency of 1.176 GHz. The antenna resonates at a frequency of 1.176 GHz with a simulation S11<-10 dB bandwidth of about 3.24% (1.160-1.198 GHz) and Axial ratio (AR) of 1.31 dB. The antenna is designed using RT duroid 6006 substrate with a dielectric constant (ϵr) = 6.15, loss tangent (δ) = 0.0019 and height (h) = 2.54 mm. The proposed design achieves a gain of 0.68 dB, good impedance matching and stable radiation.
