Abstract

A highly compact (radiating area of only 191.34mm2 =18×10.6mm2) wideband monopole antenna is presented in this paper. The antenna consists of step slotted radiating monopole with partial ground plane. The step slotted radiator modifies the surface current length path thus making the antenna to exhibit wide bandwidth operation. The antenna has a fractional bandwidth of 62.77% (2.82-5.4GHz) radiation efficiency greater than 88% and acceptable gain over the entire operating range. The antenna is intended to be used for lower WiMAX (2.8GHz), middle WiMAX (3.5GHz), C-band (4.4GHz), WLAN (5.2GHz) and higher WiMAX (5.4GHz).
