A Novel Elliptical-Shaped UWB Two-Port MIMO Antenna With Enhanced Isolation for Wireless Application

    Abstract

The requirement for increased spectrum efficiency, greater connection dependability, and high data rates has been exacerbated by the rapid advancement of wireless technology. A potential solution to these requirements is the integration of ultrawideband (UWB) technology with multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. The suggested antenna structure combines the merits of the UWB technology, including low power consumption and a wide frequency bandwidth, with the spatial diversity of MIMO. The UWB antenna design is created by incorporating an elliptical shape structure into the circular monopole patch. To further improve the bandwidth, a square shape cut is introduced on the partial ground surface. A two-element MIMO structure is designed by duplicating the UWB antenna in parallel having a distance of 0.15λ, where wavelength is computed at 4.6 GHz. The fabricated structure has a size of 21.5 × 34 × 1.6 mm3. The FR4 substrate was employed to construct the UWB MIMO antenna. The introduction of a caterpillar-shaped parasitic element between the antenna element results in isolation levels greater than 20 dB and operating bandwidth ranging from 4.6 to 13.6 GHz. The measured maximum gain was 7.3 dBi at 13 GHz in full wave simulations and experiments. Additionally, an analysis is conducted on the diversity parameters. The designed antenna demonstrates a comparatively good performance.
