A review of the clinical pharmacy services in Kasturba Hospital, India

Abstract

Providing clinical pharmacy services for better patient care has only recently been recognized in developing countries like India. This report focuses on the activities of the recently established Department of Pharmacy Practice, which offers clinical pharmacy services to Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, India. The activities include ward round participation, drug information services, adverse drug reaction reporting and monitoring, patient counselling, and periodic publication of newsletters. The department has prepared various forms to document the activities. A nine-month experience of clinical pharmacy services in Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, revealed an increased utilisation of clinical pharmacy services across this hospital. Such services are essential for developing countries like India where many drug-related problems exist.
