A Systematic Study on the Intelligent Cyber Security for Smart Microgrid

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contribution

    Abstract

The emergence of Smart Microgrids (SMGs) within modern Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) marks a transformative shift in energy distribution efficiency and renewable resource integration. However, this evolution also brings forth new security vulnerabilities necessitating comprehensive cybersecurity assessments. This study conducts a thorough exploration of SMG cybersecurity, analyzing existing threat models, vulnerabilities, and risk assessment methodologies to identify critical gaps and areas for improvement. Through extensive literature review, significant research gaps are uncovered, particularly regarding the microgrid threat modelling, impact of False Data Injection (FDI) attacks, the strategic placement of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs), and application of artificial intelligence in enhancing overall microgrid security. In response to the identified gaps, the proposed study has recommended a comprehensive and specific cyber threat framework for SMG, integrating sophisticated threat modelling, vulnerability analysis, and risk assessment strategies.
