Abstract

Recent developments in engineering materials have given an extra edge to engineers in terms of quality and cost. Because of this, these materials are being preferred over conventional materials in almost every field of science and technology. Hence, further development in the current generation cannot be possible without considering the importance of such materials. In this context, a novel material has been developed by a team of researchers from the U.K. and Germany. This material is named Proteus. It is a non-cuttable material, made up of ceramic particulates embedded in an aluminium foam-structured matrix. This paper aims to spread some light on the salient features of this newly developed material. Important mechanical characteristics of this human-made non-cuttable material are also reviewed. Besides this, the paper also discusses the steps involved in the manufacturing of Proteus along with its advantages and intended real-life applications.
