Analysis and Design of Tunable Microstrip Patch Antenna using Varactor Diode for IoT Application

    Abstract

    This paper discusses the analysis and design of a tunable/reconfigurable microstrip patch antenna capable of operating on multiple bandwidths in the S-band. The operational frequency of the antenna falls under the UHF frequency band. The reconfigurability of the antenna is achieved by the Varactor diode 'Skyworks SMV1430-040LF' as its tunable element. The antenna can achieve a bandwidth from 2.28GHz - 2.44GHz. The antenna so discussed and designed can find its application in modern-day IoT infrastructure and future applications employing accession of multiple bands by varying the bias voltage applied.
