Analysis of triple ring resonator for detecting cholesterol level in the blood

Abstract

A triple ring structure is designed on silicon on insulator with two straight waveguides and three ring waveguides. The designed structure operates in a mid-infrared region. The effective refractive index for the presence of cholesterol level is detected to be 1.55 at 1560nm in blood. The shift in the resonant peak of 120nm is observed as an analyte in the human blood. In the presence of light, detection is made easier with the coupling of triple ring structure, and it can also be monitored for quality factor and sensitivity. The sensor can be developed for implementing the design for a lab-on-a-chip device.
