Abstract

For any nation, effective utilization of natural resources and their management are extremely essential, highlighting the need to catalyze the planning process at grassroot level. Present study was envisaged under Gram Panchayat Spatial Development Planning (GPSDP) pilot project, in two ecologically sensitive Gram Panchayats (GPs) from Karnataka state, among the 34 GPs selected nationwide. High to very high resolution satellite images, Digital Elevation Model and other ancillary datasets were analyzed and integrated to arrive at comprehensive Land Resources Development Plan and Water Resources Development Plans using multi-criteria approach in GIS environment. These development plans were integrated with extensive house-hold survey data to form detailed master plan proposals, which were submitted to Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR), Government of India for potential implementation at Gram Panchayat level.
