Application of hyaluronic acid: Therapeutics, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is essential for cellular function and is thought to have crucial properties for developing novel therapies. It also contributes to physical and immunological barriers. HA-based materials are being used for biomedical applications because of their propensity to bio-mimic the hosts, which is in line with the rising need for nontoxic and tailored therapies. Additionally, HA is a flexible substance used in the production of HA-based products such as hydrogels, nanofibers, and 3D materials. These have been implemented in a variety of medicinal settings, including the treatment of cancer using HA-loaded drug delivery techniques, topical gels for wound healing, and bone and tissue regeneration. In this book chapter, we have covered the characteristics, physicochemical properties, and application of HA across numerous therapeutic, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic sectors.
