Architectural aptitude tests and course performance a case study

Architecture schools in India have been conducting aptitude tests for selecting students for admission to B Architecture program. The reason for the conduct of such tests is a strong notion that students who perform well in such tests would be better suited to the creative needs of the program, and in turn, would be better professionals. In the case study, scores in aptitude test were correlated with various course performance variables for three successive classes of students. The results seem to suggest that aptitude tests may not be reliable indicators of performance in course program, even in the most vital course of them all—Architectural Design. Various explanations have been offeredfor the lack of correlation as tentative hypotheses for wider investigation.
