Abstract
The mechanism of anaerobic fermentation of biomass into biogas is explained in terms of autocatalytic reaction. Rate equation is derived for the first order kinetics and verified using the data obtained from a digester holding 20 kg of 10% cowdung slurry at 25gC. The derived rate equation based on the proposed autocatalytic mechanism is found to explain the experimental rate satisfactorily.
