Abstract

There is a great need to address health science students about organ donation and encourage them to make people aware about organ donation, remove misconception and religious beliefs and ask them to come forward for organ donation. Therefore the present study is designed to obtain the level of awareness and concerns regarding organ donation among health science students. The study questionnaire was distributed to the final year medical, nursing and allied sciences students assess the awareness, attitude and concerns regarding various aspects of organ donation. All the students were aware about organ donation after death. The students opine that the commonest organs donated included eyes and kidneys. Majority of the students were unsure about registering as an organ donor. 10% of students’ family members carry an eye donor card. This study would be helpful in revealing the hindering factors related to organ donation which would be targeted and the students could be motivated for the same.
