Behavioral Challenges Associated to Social Media Usage Among Teenagers: A Neuroscience Perspective

Abstract

Social media plays a significant role in the well-being of a teenager. Exposure to various kinds and forms of information is significantly disrupting their neural pathway and hence leading to various kinds of addictive behavior, attention deficit disorder, anxiety, depression and so on. Various aspect related to social and emotional well-being and its impact on behavior related to social media has been explored in this chapter. As per Hebbian’s Learning theory and its association with neural networking clearly shows the importance of exposure to various stimulus and its effect on brain functioning. It significantly impacts on learning and memory. Therefore, it becomes a priority to address and understand various Social Media content and its exposure level and intensity associated to this vulnerable age group.
