    Abstract

Power electronics based power converters are used to charge high voltage traction battery of Electric vehicles from the grid. Bidirectional converter allow using this battery as an energy source. Such a bidirectional converter consists of front end bidirectional AC-DC converter followed by a bidirectional DC-DC converter. The bidirectional AC-DC converter regulates current at the ac side to realize power factor correction. It also reduces THD of inverted AC voltage. The back end isolated DC-DC converter performs CC-CV battery charging by regulating battery side current or voltage. This paper proposes a unique control strategy for Dual Active Bridge (DAB) bidirectional DC-DC converter to regulate battery charging and discharging process and to run a standalone AC load from the battery.
