Abstract

Relative performances (effectiveness) of different transportable neutron sources are compared theoretically for quantitatively estimating concentrations of environmentally hazardous elements (Cl, As, Cd, Gd, Hg, Pb) using PGNAA technique. Simulations are carried out using Monte Carlo Code and the estimated responses of the elements are folded with the energy distributions of different transportable neutron sources. Also ratio method is investigated in this work. Improvement in the detection efficiency of trace elements using different thicknesses of HDPE slabs are also investigated.
