N2 - Corrosion is a naturally occurring phenomenon through which a material can transform into its more chemically stable form. Microbial influenced corrosion, a major concern in industries, is a category of corrosion caused by microorganisms that change the media chemistry through their own metabolic activities. Fundamental concerns about MIC remain unresolved despite intensive research and several publications. In many industrial systems, microbial corrosion remains unnoticed, resulting in considerable waste and increased operational expenses. One metal that is highly corrosive and yet immensely famous in the industries due to a wide range of applications is mild steel. Corrosion inhibition is important now more than ever. The use of corrosion inhibitors is the easiest and most economical method of corrosion protection of the metal. A myriad of inhibitors are currently in use for the protection of mild steel against microbial corrosion and the following article provides a comprehensive review of them.
