Abstract
Looking at communication media through practices of communication and culture via the cultural discourse studies (CDS) perspective can help us better understand social change and interpretations of the cultural context. Digital media literacy is becoming a prerequisite to looking at culture, and progress calls for greater attention to the digital role, access, skills, and benefits of using ICTs and their impact on our lives, language, and culture, both local and global. Societies big and small are thriving despite the challenges of digitalisation. Challenges to the multicultural context faced in the digitalisation process are universal and can no longer be ignored. Researchers have comprehensively discussed the digital divide and digital capital through the lens of the CDS perspective to enhance research in communication and its discourses. This chapter aims to perform the case study within the framework of CDS on the nature of digital gaps in intracultural and intercultural encounters experienced in the multicultural state of Manipur, India. It examines social interactions and the intercultural dynamics of digital engagement and participation within the state’s diverse ethnography and how it opens newer vistas for looking at issues and solutions related to digital literacy.
