Abstract

This paper focuses on the application of cybernetics and system dynamics in engineering education and industrial training. Seven time-based policy parameters, which have significant influence on the system, were chosen for simulation. The research methodology involves the development of causal loop diagram of engineering competence pool model (ECOPM), the flow diagram development, formulation, and control loop development. The simulation is performed to study the effect of the policy parameters on the recruitment completion rate (RCRATE). As the effectiveness of ECOPM is a function of its ability to develop and deploy the engineering competence, the policy parameter, which has the most significant effect on RCRATE, was identified through this study. Hence, the result of this study could be a tool to enhance the effectiveness of engineering education and training.
