Abstract
A new design proposed for the miniature antenna and studied for the UWB spectrum. The proposed design is simple and size efficient. The front consists of a square patch with a semicircular strip on one side and three inter-connected rectangular bars on the back, with two circles placed on the top half. The elements are printed on FR-4 which is a flame retardant. The feed line of the substrate is 50Ω. The antenna operates between 3 GHz -10.8 GHz frequency ranges. The simulated and measured reflection coefficient (S11) is below -10 dB over the entire UWB band with the impedance bandwidth evaluates as 113%. The antenna is designed to be space-efficient and the final volume of the structure is only 12×13×1.5 mm3. It has a peak gain of up to 1.82 dB and antenna efficiency up to 79%. The radiation pattern is compliant with the monopole characteristics of this antenna. The proposed structure has a satisfactory stable radiation pattern over the band. The proposed design is compatible with use in the UWB band which includes 3.5/5.5 GHz-(WiMAX) and 5.2/5.8 GHz-(WLAN), satellite communication, and other communication applications.
