Abstract

Mouth is regarded as the mirror of the body and eyes are considered the index of the mind. There are several interesting conditions and syndromes in which the outstanding feature is the simultaneous involvement of the eyes and the oral cavity. Hence, knowledge regarding these conditions for physicians, oral health care specialists and ophthalmologists may prove beneficial for their patients. Gross abnormalities in the external eye and oral cavity lesions are readily recognizable on routine examination of patients even on an outpatient basis. There are oral as well as ocular manifestations in several disorders. The effects of these disorders in the eyes, as well as the oral cavity, may produce a structural change, functional change or both. Until date, there is no literature describing the various conditions with oral and ocular features, hence this review is an attempt to assemble the various clinical conditions with both oral and ocular involvement and to classify these disorders accordingly along with their clinical signs.
