Dressing in Hypospadias Repair

Many different types of dressings for hypospadias repair have been developed with varying degrees of popularity. There are probably as many types of hypospadias dressing as there are procedures described. Dressings are used to provide immobilisation and prevent haematoma and oedema. No one dressing type is universally accepted as superior over others, as each dressing has its advantages and disadvantages. The surgeon determines the choice, depending on dressing practice in their setup based on the type of hypospadias repair, amount of tissue dissection and most importantly, the availability of dressing material. However, studies have questioned the value of dressings and recommended no dressing in most hypospadias repairs. Still, these results need further randomised studies, as most centres practise dressing after hypospadias surgery.
