Dual-band miniaturized and modified circular patch radiator for Wi-Fi/WLAN Applications

    Abstract

    In this article, Dual-band miniaturized and modified circular patch (MCP) antenna is fabricated and investigated for WLAN and Wi-Fi. The proposed antenna architecture has an entire size of 14∗16∗1.6 mm3 which is more compact than other designs proposed. The (MCP) antenna structure is etched out on the front side while finite back plane is printed on the back side of the FR4 substrate. Dual frequency band is obtained due to addition of rectangular strips in the patch. The parameters of the MCP patch as well as the finite back plane are optimized so as to get a dual frequency band frequency at 2.4 5.8GHz range that is suitable for WLAN. The gain is 2dB at the frequency of 2.4GHz and about 3.1dB peak gain at the frequency band of 5.8GHz. The peak antenna efficiency are 70% at lower bands and at the higher bands an efficiency of 60% is achieved. The stable Omni-directional and Bi-directional Co-polarization are noticed with a good agreement of cross(X)-polarization.
