    Abstract

Thin films of ZnS have been vacuum coated on glass substrates at room temperature. The crystal structure and optical properties of the films were studied using X-ray diffractometer (XRD and UV visible spectrophotometer, respectively. The X-ray diffraction patterns showed that films were polycrystalline in nature with cubic structure. The optical band gap was measured close to 3.7 eV. The influence of rate of deposition on the grain size of the films were analyzed.
