T1 - Effect of Fe, Co, and Zn substitution on thermal expansion of GdBa 2Cu3O7

N2 - This paper reports some preliminary results obtained on the effect of Fe, Co, Zn substitution on the thermal expansion of high Tc superconducting compounds Gd1Ba2(Cu1-xM x)3O7, M=Fe, Co, Zn for 0≤x≤ 2%. All the samples are single phased. The pure sample exhibited a jump of about 6.9×10-8 per Kelvin. It is observed that the jump in thermal expansion increases for dopants occupying Cu(1) sites, whereas for dopants which occupy Cu(2) sites, a decrease in jump in thermal expansion is observed.
