Abstract

Plasma lipid peroxidation, antioxidants viz, glutathione and uric acid have been determined by spectrophotometric method in 25 healthy subjects and 25 epileptics after an episode of generalized seizure. The study showed significant increase in plasma lipid peroxidation and uric acid in epileptics compared to normals. However, blood glutathione levels decreased significantly in these patients compared to controls. It can be concluded that these patients are under oxidative stress which points to a possible involvement of free radicals in epilepsy.
