Abstract

Methotrexate was encapsulated in "niosomes" of sorbitan monostearate (Span 60) by the reverse phase evaporation technique. After i.v. infusion into mice methotrexate concentration was higher in all tissues except kidney with niosomal methotrexate than with methotrexate solution. Niosome encapsulation and macrophage activation enhanced the delivery of methotrexate to the tumor and increased its antitumor activity.
