Abstract

The efficacy of topical therapy with silver sulphadiazine and zinc sulphadiazine was compared with that of zinc sulphate in controlling pseudomonas infection of burns in mice. Both zinc and silver sulphadiazine reduced the mortality by 18 per cent but zinc sulphate failed to reduce mortality at all. The results indicate that in vivo, the antibacterial activity of zinc ions may be supplemented by that of sulphadiazine moiety.
