Abstract

Enhanced UV absorption (a=three times) and fluorescence emission (k= four time) was observed for Norfloxacin when it was complexed with Betacyclodextin. This could enhance the precession in the analysis of Norfloxacin by the fluorescence emission method compared to the UV absorption method. The 1:1 M neutralization complex gave maximum values of both UV absorbance and fluorescence emission compared to the physical mixture or the kneading complex. The probable mechanism of the complex formation was proposed to be due to the inclusion of drug into the BCD cavity. The rigidity of the molecule could deactivate the collision, reducing the quenching, leading to an increase in fluorescence. Thus spectro-fluorimetric method is more precise, reproducible and simple in the estimation of Norfloxacin and can be used with higher accuracy for the estimation of Norfloxacin in formulations or biological samples.
