Erythrocyte as a cellular model of aging research

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

The identification of important biomarkers emphasize the importance of erythrocytes to act as model cells for the study of aging and age-related diseases. The erythrocyte provides an array of biochemical parameters which have been successfully used to assess aging related changes in redox status. This article also enumerates different membrane transporters in erythrocytes during aging which represent common denominators of aging in different organisms, with special emphasis on mammalian aging.
