Abstract
South Kanara's vegetable wealth particularly with reference to the medicinal flora has been mostly unexplored. It is in continuation of these studies the scientific appraisal of a known, interesting and locally growing plant-Cinnamomum species of the Family Lauraceae was taken up. Based on the presence of an unusual chemical constituent in the volatile oil of the leaf, the status of this species to be raised to the level of a chemical race has been suggested.
