Abstract

Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs) comprise of hosts moving freely thereby resulting in disconnections very frequently, and this causes frequent network partitioning. In such scenarios data replication profoundly improves data availability. With replicas the consistency among the replicas is a major issue. In this paper, a consistency method based on event ordering is proposed and simulated. The consistency mechanism is proposed for a clustered MANET with data replicas created by replication on the clustered structure. The grouping is accomplished through fuzzy based clustering method. With multiple replicas and other MANETs specific characteristics like resource constraints, management of consistency among the replicas becomes a vital issue. The consistency method proposed tries to ensure that the clients acquire data item that is older than what they have previously read. It guarantees consistency for even the scenario where the updates are from independent sources for a given data item. The simulations demonstrated the impact of the read and update rate on the overall system performance.
