Abstract

Aluminium based metal matrix composites discover different types of applications in defence, aerospace, automobile equipment because of their desirable properties of great strength, light in weight, and coefficient of thermal expansion. In the current research, Al 7075 alloy composites reinforced with 2, 4 and 6% of Al2O3 are developed using the stir casting technique. Specimens are setup according to the worldwide measures and tensile, hardness, wear and impact tests are led to evaluate the mechanical properties. It was presumed that WCI powder up to 6% can be added to Al effectively by stir casting course to create a hybrid composite Evaluation reveals an improvement in the hardness and strength values with the amount of Al2O3 addition. The frictional and wear force increased with decrease in concentration of Al2O3 in the aluminium matrix. Impact strength variation is marginal with an increase in weight % of Al2O3.
