N2 - Attacks by wild boar sus scrofa cristatus are a fairly common affair in Southern Karnataka while fatalities are rare. There have been a few documented cases of fatalities occurring in the region due to the abovementioned species. The injuries sustained are majorly soft tissue trauma; however fatalities occur due to either exsanguinations or its complications like sepsis. Attacks generally occur in mating season in densely bushy areas however incidence is increasing primarily due to human encroachment in forest areas. The typical hallmark of a wild boar attack is the presence of injuries in the lower part of the body due to the small reach of the animal. In this case the authors documented atypical injuries involving chest region with perforation of heart due to wild boar attack with circumstantial evidence of the presence of wild boar marks at the site of the incident.
