Forked rib: An autopsy case report and discussion on its clinical implications

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Congenital anomalies of the ribs are relatively uncommon. We report a case of forked rib which was observed during the routine autopsy examination of a male child of aged 7 yrs at our institution. We observed that the right side fourth rib was showing bifurcation at its anterior end. We discuss the clinical implication of this variant along with relevant review of literature. The clinicians, radiologists and surgeons should be familiar with this normal variant to avoid mistaking for an abnormality.
