Abstract

The in vitro antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of Saccharum spontaneum L. has been investigated by DPPH free radical scavenging, nitric oxide scavenging, reduction of ferric ions and lipid peroxide methods. The ethanol extract showed significant activity in all the above mentioned methods. Free radical scavenging activity might be due to the presence of flavonoids, baicalein and baicalein- 7-O-rutinoside.
