Global and Indian Perspectives on Sustainable Development, Remote Sensing, and Climate Change: An Overview

Abstract

The intersection of sustainability, remote sensing, and climate change creates a dynamic trio of disciplines that provides novel answers to one of humanity’s most important problems: the developing climate catastrophe. The overall foundation for a resilient and equitable future is sustainability, which is founded on the values of environmental stewardship, social equality, and economic success. Remote sensing, aided by cutting-edge technology, is a powerful toolkit that enables us to monitor, evaluate, and respond to the diverse effects of climate change with unprecedented accuracy. This work investigates how these interrelated factors interact to pave the way for a more sustainable and climate-resilient future. It looks into remote sensing’s critical role in climate change research, as demonstrated by its ability to track temperature changes, sea level rise, deforestation, and urbanization. Remote sensing, viewed through this lens, enables evidence-based decision-making, stimulates cross-disciplinary partnerships, and improves our knowledge of the complex interactions between human activities and the environment. Our analysis suggests critical future measures to develop this synergy. These include the creation of integrated policy frameworks that prioritize sustainability, investments in remote sensing innovations, capacity building to fully utilize the potential of remote sensing technologies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and initiatives to promote sustainable lifestyles and responsible consumption. In conclusion, the convergence of sustainability, remote sensing, and climate change mitigation offers a game-changing path ahead. It promises to not only mitigate the effects of climate change but also to create peaceful cohabitation between humans and the world. This paper emphasizes the need of embracing this convergence as a key driver of global sustainable and climate-resilient development.
